Though the fishing has been difficult, of late, this is normal for this time of year which coincides with the annual spawn. The smaller males have moved into the shallows and prepared their beds. I haven't seen any large females spawning yet, so they are probably doing what is called a "Parade". Several females, in a group, will move down a shoreline (just offshore) and the male will come out to shepherd one of them into his bed.
Two tactics I've been using:
Tactic 1: Pitch a lizard or craw onto a bed and sit there (lightly twitching your bait) until a buck bass picks it up to remove the intruder. Tactic 2: Throw a swim bait (I use a Keitec 4.0 fat impact) just offshore, parallel to the bank and hope for a larger female to strike.
Despite the weather and the Covid-19 scare, its still a good time to come fish Naconiche.
