September is supposed to be "the worst month" for bass fishing. Maybe because of the erratic weather patterns? We definitely had that this month. Fake Fall in the first week. High heat in the middle. Then a nice cool down at the end. This had the water temp swinging from 90 to 80, back to 90, and now 79 degrees. This definitely had the fish in "WTF" mode.
Despite this, we had some good days out there. Two baits were responsible for 80% of the catches.
1: The Swing-head with a 4.5in X-Zone Adrenaline Craw in Talapia color. This is a substitute for the standard Tx-rig Mag-worm. These fish haven't seen this presentation, as much, and I think that was the key. We found quality 4-6lb fish in the back sections hugging the bottom in 8-10ft.
2: The ever-successful Square-bill crankbait. My go-to is the Cornerstone 2.5 in chrome shad. But others do well, too. This may be the best overall lure, for this lake, due to the heavy timber and the ability to cover water.
Honorable mention: The Megabass Vision 110jr plus-1 in ProBlue. This gets bit over deep water when you find them schooling.
All-in-all, September was up and down. But the ups were REALLY GOOD! Here's some catch pics, using these techniques.
