Wow! July was all over the place with weather and the fishing. Hurricane Beryl hit early in the month and shut down the fishing for a bit, of course. Afterwards, we had some storms that hit pretty hard as well. However, in between the rain and significant heat, we had some good days thrown in there. The thermocline is set at the 10ft zone with 88deg surface temps. This can rule out a ton of water. We'll, at least it can tell you where they ain't. Nothing lives below that line. With that in mind, my presentation is always looking to be in the 8-10ft zone. Be that over 24ft of water, out in the channels, or on the bottom in 10ft or less.
I love jerkbaits. So, a Jr. sized plus1 is perfect for this, as it gets down to that zone. If I'm on bottom, I'm throwing a Swing-head (Wobble-head) with an X-Zone Adrenaline Craw in Junebug or Talapia. I've started using this rig in place of the Tx-rig Mag-worm, because I feel like these fish haven't seen this presentation as much. Plus, it's more fun to throw.
I surprised the wife with a trip to Montana for our anniversary. Of course, I wasn't leaving until we got to fly fish the Yellowstone river. BOOM! Fish of a lifetime! 23 inch Brownie:
