(8.4.22) What happened to July? It went by so fast, I forgot to post a fishing report. So, I'm retrofitting this report back 5 days. Thanks!
The summer heat and lack of rain is making tough on us humans. However, it makes for predictable fish. Find the thermocline, find the shad... find the bass. Thermocline is the easy part. Using down imaging on your sonar, look for the "hazy" line. Typically, about 12ft deep. That's the thermocline. The 2ft above this line is where the bait and bass will be. A lure in this area is likely to get bit.
With that, any shad style lure that can be counted down to, or run through, this zone is my summer pattern. Keeping this "magic zone" in mind can find fish in exactly that depth. So go find water, with some cover, in the 8 to 12ft depth. This is where you can throw bottom contact baits. Worms, crankbaits, jigs, etc... Not matter where you are, think like a bass. Meaning that they are a lot like us. Find me in the shade of a tree? Find a bass in the shade too.
Lastly, it's always fun to be sitting in a spot when the water starts to boil with a feeding frenzy! Summer blast!
Thanks to E. Brown for coming out to catch some of these frenzied bass!
