6.27.23 FISHING REPORT

Writer's picture: Eric WolfeEric Wolfe

As I sit here in 102deg heat with an index of 112deg, I am torn between being contently happy or completely sad. My boat has been down for a month. Dead. First, it was the trim cylinder that blew a seal. But that didn't 100% keep me from fishing. I just trolled everywhere I could. But, immediately after that, my entire right side (motor, electronics, and everything non-trolling) went dead. This, after I just installed a new lithium battery a few weeks prior. It was AWESOME, until it wasn't. After lots of testing, I determined the battery was fine... must be a bad ground. To the shop it went. Two weeks in, Mercury gets hacked and the shop can't order parts. Ugh!! Then, the shop said "...your battery is dead." "WTF? NO WAY!" I said. Long story short, it shows 12.6v but only until you put any load on it. Boom! 1.9v. Ugh!!

So, now I have to deal with Dakota battery warranty... we'll see if they honor it. In the meantime, Mallard Marine fights with Mercury and gets them to warranty my motor's trim package. Yay!! Hopefully that will get resolved. (Still in the shop at the time of this post)

Suffice it to say that I haven't been able to fish. But a month full of EXTREME HEAT warnings has me in a place where I ain't that mad. It's just too damn hot out there! Last I left'em, they were choking the new Cornerstone Baits square-bill. And the A-rig was starting to catch'em, too. I have to apologize to 3 potential clients, because I had to say no to their bookings. That's hard to do, but they all understood.

I can't believe I'm actually going to say this... here's to July and August being cooler! 🙄🤞🤪

My new confidence bait: Cornerstone square-bill.
