Rain, rain, and more...wind! It's been tough, folks! Wish I could say that we are catching crazy numbers and fattys galore. But, we just ain't. The spawn is still in full swing, and we are choking on an abundance of thick grass. (Grass is good for bass, bad for fisherman trying to find beds to fish)
Hard not to get discouraged, but here's what it always comes down to: You can't catch'em if you don't throw'em! So, this is what I throw when sight fishing:
Lizards, Craws, & Creature baits. Using as little weight as possible, if any, pitch just past the bed and ease your offering onto the bed. PATIENCE!! Lightly twitch your rod, trying to not move the bait... but rather, just shaking it in place.
How can you tell if a bed fish is "catchable"? If that fish is holding close, or "locked on" the bed, you can probably catch'em. If they move off and act skittish, then you should move on.
The good news? The awesome post-spawn bite is just around the corner! It won't be long until we get "back to normal". So if you're ready to catch'em... come throw'em!
Here's my new friend Lenny M. with a nice catch on or last trip. Thx, L.M.!
