November started kinda rough. The lake turnover seemed to linger on and on. Add that to the cold-hot-cold weather pattern and we had a tough bite. But the last 2 weeks got turned on a little better. We had a stretch run of rain that got the lake back to full pool, plus a few inches. And the bite has gotten much better.
The usual suspects like the A-rig, underpin, and deep diving crankbait did the most damage. The week of Thanksgiving was particularly good for the morning bite. I've seen HUGE schools of shad over the creeks, closer towards the main lake area. That's a good sign of things to come. I hope to see the jerkbait bite come into play from now 'til spring.
A special thanks to my wonderful clients who came out to fish in tough conditions and understood that this lake has great potential despite not getting the big bite we've grown to expect. Thank you!
Here's a nice 5.7lb chunk caught on the first cast using the R2S Tactical Bassin DD75 crankbait.
